back in action
Sam and I drove back into Austin late last night from our adventure in New Orleans. We had a posh hotel on Canal between the French Quarter and Warehouse & Garden Districts with a great veiw of the other hotels on Canal. Burbon street was fun but not as much of an orgy of excitement as I'd imagined - it made me feel old how uninterested I was in it all. My advice to you: don't drink the handgrenades. As for the rest, I'll recap in list form:
- Walking hand in hand with Samantha in the French Quarter
- Taking the streetcar to Audubon park / Tulane Campus and being subsequently devoured by mosquitos on the golf course
- Shopping on Magazine Street after finally figuring out where the shops were
- Exploring the out of the way bars in Faubourg-Marigny
- Finding all the late-night restaurants because Sam & I started each day no earlier than 3pm
- Smoking cigars with my girlfriend in a tourist club on Bourbon
- Setting up a bar in our hotel bathroom
- Making super8mm movies of our escapades
- Beignets & Cafe au Lait @ Cafe du Monde
But by and large, the best part of the trip was simply being with Sam. I'd never before been on a trip where the destination took a back seat to my companion. We could have really been anywhere and just as much fun together, but I'm glad we were in New Orleans. Now I'm glad to to be back home in Austin.
