the use of unacceptable colors in nature

Tomorrow I start working at Blue Genie Art Industries, a bitchin' outfit that designs and fabricates all sorts of gigantic murals and sculptures and stuff. They work out of a huge warehouse on the east side thats part of the Blue Complex. It should be really awesome. It would be even more awesome if I was getting paid for it, but one can't have everything I suppose.

our lady of passive transitions

I've been wrestling with the idea of making a maga/zine for months - that's one of the reasons I decided to do the whole Portland thing. After much half-hearted consideration and lacadasical research, I believe I finally have it all pinned down. Its called Makeshift Magazine and it will be a lo-fi art/design magazine with an emphasis on motion graphics and animation created by hobbyists, tinkerers, and students who are making it up as they go along. It will have a traditional print component and a dvd showcasing the work that the magazine highlights. Hopefully I can get enough advertisers to cover the cost of the actual production of the magazine so that any money made from sales will be able to go into a production fund akin to the Austin Film Society's Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund although smaller in scope. Of course I have no idea how I'm going to do any of this. I've never designed a magazine or printed a magazine or sold advertising or did interviews or anything. I have no idea in what order to do any of it. Right now all I have is a name and the beginings of a website. I guess thats a pretty good start.

like a strange parade

Well another year has rolled around and has brought with it yet another birthday. In less than three weeks I'm going to be 23 years old - the oldest I've ever been in my life. To commemorate this important stage of my life, I've decided to begin the R.Schlickeisen 23rd Birthday Memorial Chair Fund. The RSTTBMCF will be applied to the purchase of a vintage fiberglass Eames chair, the likes of which I've been oogling ever since I got turned on to the Eames' body of work. Contributions to this fund may be made in lieu of the tradtional 23rd birthday gift of lieterhosen and fruitcake. *love, rs.
