our lady of passive transitions
I've been wrestling with the idea of making a maga/zine for months - that's one of the reasons I decided to do the whole Portland thing. After much half-hearted consideration and lacadasical research, I believe I finally have it all pinned down. Its called
Makeshift Magazine and it will be a lo-fi art/design magazine with an emphasis on motion graphics and animation created by hobbyists, tinkerers, and students who are making it up as they go along. It will have a traditional print component and a dvd showcasing the work that the magazine highlights. Hopefully I can get enough advertisers to cover the cost of the actual production of the magazine so that any money made from sales will be able to go into a production fund akin to the
Austin Film Society's Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund although smaller in scope. Of course I have no idea how I'm going to do any of this. I've never designed a magazine or printed a magazine or sold advertising or did interviews or anything. I have no idea in what order to do any of it. Right now all I have is a name and the beginings of a website. I guess thats a pretty good start.
