Ok. I finally went to the damn record convention. I've lived in and around Austin for twenty years and have never been. There are like two a year and every time I forget or let it slip by. Not this time, pal. It was totally overwhelming. I pretend to know something about music. Well that something = a subsliver of the giant pie. It really would have helped to have had an idea of what I was looking for before I went into it. Then I spotted it. $2 for a mint LP of the Cat People soundtrack by...Giorgio Moroder. So I have come to the conclusion that many before me have probably already concluded conclusively: Giorgio Moroder is a fucking badass. Seriously. I started listening to some of his soundtrack work (midnight express mainly) for the reason I like a lot of stuff initially, for the irony, but GM is ill. I've been on this co-flow / el-p / def-jux thing for like a year - science fiction hip hop - and every el-p song has like fifty Moroder samples. I stopped to put the links in and now I'm off track. Blah. Also, saw Grupo Fantasma at Cafe Mundi last night - those cats are awesome. Not as awesome as say, Giorgio Moroder, but still very cool, ass-shakin' cumbia. I however shook no ass. I was not nearly drunk enough for that. Still hunting for a job, updates will follow...love, rs

Not much has happened since the last post. I've decided to stretch out my college career even though I hate school so much. I signed a year lease on my soon-to-be-new place for a rent break discount deal, so since I'm here, I may as well be schooling. Maybe not. See, when I say decided, I refer to the nebulous guilt/fear monster called my decision, so I don't know what's going on. Went to the jumpcut filmfest last night - wasn't much of a fest, but I always enjoy seeing other students' work because it makes me want to make films. It isn't enough however, to make me get off my lazy ass this weekend. I wanted to go to the filmmakers' alliance conference, but I was just so tired after my show (25 hours of consciousness) that I couldn't do it. Woe! Also, I found two great austin sites: veg-out austin and austin sushi which are both pretty comprehensive. I added them to the links menu. I, like, commas. - love ryan
