a while ago and recently
Its something like 5:30am. Went to the music network for a 4-hour data entry orgy that barely scrapes the tip of the iceberg. Half-priced and found nothing (the lack of s&m books in this town is alarming, then again I'm probably looking in the wrong place). Wandered into a bollywood video store that also happened to have an indian buffet for the next fifteen minutes and gorged myself on naan and assorted curries. Home briefly, then to Beevy's with Jonathan to drop off their christmas presents. In the spirit of the impending new year, I drank a bottle of champagne and fell asleep in classic ryan style. Home, sleep, awake, repeat. *love, r.

on a concrete continent
I think I am at a point in my life where I attach an unwholesome amount of meaning to everything. I had envisioned getting a lot more from this holiday trip to NY (whatever that means). It has been, for better or for worse, a replay of the last time I was here six years ago for my sister & todd's wedding reception: mostly lounging around todd's dad's house in Rye with a handful of commuter train rides into manhattan. I saw some interesting stuff, galleries, stores and such, but am leaving in a few hours feeling distinctly unsatisfied. I was not as awed by the big city as on my previous adventure. The subway was more a means of transportation than rollercoaster this time around. Perhaps I was trying too hard to seem accustomed to it all, to conceal my thorough bumpkinhood. It felt location scouting for a new place to live although I cannot fathom how I could possible afford to live here on my meager means. Whatever. Despite obvious short comings (no lion king, no crazy scientolgist christmas pagaent, no puppets, no jazz, no coney island, and no film at pac lab, those jerks!) it has been worth it to get out of dodge for a while. Stress about school and miscellany had been weighing on me and it has been nice to spend time with my sister and todd and his more-family-family-than-my-unfamily-family at Mr. T's wonderfully timewarped homestead (20 year old tv relegated to the unheated basement, internet only at the office, books-a-plenty). I am now ready to get home, though, and get to work.
